You've Gotten Accepted Into College! Now What?
By Mia Hurta
Staff Reporter March 9, 2018 Congratulations! You’ve been accepted to the college of your dreams, but now what?
It’s easy to get caught up in applying to college and be overwhelmed by deciding which one you chose to go to but there’s so many important things to follow up with after being accepted. You don’t want to find yourself in a sticky situation because you forgot to submit or complete something for your admissions. One of the very first things you should do after getting into a college and deciding to go there is to follow through with the process of creating your school account and keeping up with deadlines. For example at UF your school account is called a gatorlink and it provides you with an identification number used later for other processes like creating a school email. Next you should apply for financial aid if need be or FAFSA. It’s a first come first serve basis though so it’s important to be wary of deadlines. Speaking of deadlines you should also be sure to make your tuition deposit by your schools due date in order to confirm your enrollment. Another thing I would recommend doing sooner than later is applying for housing and finding a roommate. This is also first come first serve so the earlier you are the more likely you are to get your preference of room. This can save you hassle in the long run because if you can’t get housing in the area of your classes due to it already being full you will need to account for a lot of daily walking time to and from classes. If you don’t already know someone you are rooming with you should try using the assistance pages and sites that your school offers to find a roommate fitting for you. Most schools ask you a series of questions and try to pair you with a compatible roommate. You also more than likely will have to send your school your final high school transcripts at the end of your senior year by a certain date. So make sure to be constantly checking emails and the online shell to find dates such as this one. It may sound like a lot but it’s all important stuff to make sure everything goes smoothly as you transition into college life. You will be thanking yourself later when everyone else is cramming things in last minute or finding that they missed important deadlines such as these. |
