The Truth Behind Maybelline and MakeupBy Aztilen Maldonado
Staff Reporter March 20, 2018 There are a lot of makeup brands now a days. However, we as teenagers don't really know what is in it or how the brand was created.
Maybelline is a makeup company founded by Thomas Lyle Williams in 1915. He was inspired by his sister when at the age of 19 he saw her mixing Vaseline with coal to create mascara. It is an American brand and was named after his sister Mabel. Maybelline's parent is L'Oréal. To have a parent company you must be bought partly or wholly by a bigger company. Parent companies own about 50% of the voting stock. Maybelline produces only makeup. Their target market is 18-35-year-old females. They have a wide variety of eye, lip and face products. Surprisingly they have affordable prices for most of these products. Like any other type of company, they have competitors. Maybelline's competitors are Revlon, Lakme and Elle18. It’s a new era and with that comes more brands and new ideas. Companies like Fenty by Rihanna and Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner are changing the game for older brands. They have come up with newer and healthier products for your skin. Most girls enjoy the newer brands. They like the variations in products. Although they are expensive they believe that it is all worth it in the name of beauty. Most makeup and body products contain lead acetate, coal tar and UV filters. They are used to color and prevent damage from makeup. Tallow is also found in makeup and body products. Tallow is an ingredient that contains animal carcasses. It seems that beauty isn't always delightful. It is expensive and at times gross. |
