Lend A Helping Hand With Food Drives

Staff Reporter November 8, 2017 Lending a helping hand during the holidays is great. One way to do this is by hosting food drives.
Food drives are commonly conducted during the holidays. For example, we are having one this month that coincides with Thanksgiving. Other schools or organizations may do them for Christmas or Easter. Most foods allowed for donation are canned tuna, canned fruits or vegetables. Also you can donate cereal, granola bars, boxes of mac and cheese, pasta, evaporated milk, broth and non-perishable milk are also appreciated. These drives benefit a whole family who have a low income and do not have another option for food. Most have these families have children under the age of 18. Also 15% of the people benefiting from food drives are senior citizens around the age of 65. Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida located in Orlando, Fl is ranked 4 out 5 stars. Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida located in Fort Myers, Fl is also ranked 4 out of 5 stars. These are some of the biggest organizations that help contribute to making someone’s lives easier. However, there are more organizations like these around the world. Some may even send food to places outside the United States. The length of a food drive depends on the school or organization. Some last a week or a little longer. You can volunteer by donating foods or just helping to spread the word. Helping out during a food drive is such a great experience. Knowing that you’re helping someone makes you feel happy. Seeing the smiles on their face makes all the hard work worth it. Also this event helps you to meet new people and create new bonds. |
