How to Narrow Down CollegesBy Mia Hurta
Staff Reporter March 10, 2017 Picking a college that is right for you is an important decision that can be hard to make. Out of the tons of colleges to choose from how can you be sure the one you pick is a good fit?
One important factor in choosing a college that’s right for you is first deciding what you want to go to school for. Once you figure this out it becomes significantly easier to decide between colleges. If you have a specific major you know you are going for, you can easily just do some research and look for the top colleges that offer good programs in the area you will be studying. You also need to make sure that you are looking into the locations of these colleges and picking what is in your interest. If you aren’t comfortable with traveling out of state to go to college or don’t have the budget to pay out of state fees, then you should limit your choices to state colleges or community colleges that are relatively close to you that you have the possibility to commute to. However if you find yourself wanting to branch out and move to a different area away from home then look more into the out of state colleges. One more factor to reason about is how long you will be going to school. Depending on whether you are going for a master’s degree or just wanting to get an associates degree it affects your budget. If you know you will be going to school for eight years or more it can be scary to think of student loans and debt so you may want to pick the cheaper university option. Opposed to this, if you are only attending school for two years you may have more freedom of range to pick a pricier university. Whether you're going to school for eight years or only two, you’re going to want to enjoy your time their. Take all the time you need in making this decision because you aren’t going to like regretting it for the rest of your life. You will thank yourself later for considering these important factors in your decision. |
