How not to fall victim to mid-year lack of motivationBy Haley Stark
Press Crew January 27, 2015 With winter break now over it’s easy for students, especially seniors, to fall victim to the mid-year lack of motivation.
Suddenly that homework assignment for history gets replaced with Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat. That project due for English that you’ve had for three weeks gets pushed back day after day until you have to pull an all-nighter and suffer from a mental breakdown in order to get it finished the night before it’s due. The mid-year lack of motivated, coupled with extreme procrastination, seems almost inevitable. For the upperclassmen, “senioritis” is in full swing and the temptation to slack off is unbearable. Although it’s easy to slide into the black hole of underachievement, it’s important to finish the semester out strong and come back from break ready to tackle the New Year. One easy solution is to stay organized. That means it’s time to dig out the planner you bought at the beginning of the year only to quickly retire it under your bed, and write down upcoming due dates and approaching tests and exams. It’s important to give yourself incentive to complete your homework and stay on top of your classes. A simple tip is to break up long study sessions and homework into short 15-30 minute periods and start homework earlier than 9:00 at night. Remember, this nine weeks and this semester counts. Don’t allow yourself to drown underneath that mountain of homework or give up on preparing for tests thinking that you can just get better grades after break. It’s time to dig down deep, work hard this next week and ace those upcoming exams. The grades you get today will affect your future tomorrow, next month and next year. Besides, there’s light at the end of tunnel with a desperately needed break right around the corner. |
