Racetac
As almost everyone in DeLand High knows, the corner store for lunch, snacks or gas has been closed for renovations. The manager of the Racetrac, Nick Schoppert, gave details about the construction. Schoppert said that the decision to start renovations was made to keep up with Racetrac’s goal of being “the convenience store of choice.” He added that newer stores, like the Racetrac on International, are easier to renovate because there’s more room to work with compared to “an older, smaller store.” One of the changes to be made to the store include a frozen yogurt bar, with 10 different flavors and 30 toppings. There will also be a few changes to the layout of the store, but “all for the better,” according to Schoppert. Racetrac has plans to reopen the store around late October, or sooner if they can manage it. While waiting on the construction to finish, customers can still buy gas as long as they use a debit or credit card. Schoppert, who was relocated to a newly renovated Racetrac, also said that if customers are curious as to what the store will look like, the Racetrac on Howland in Deltona looks similar to the floor plans for the store on International. Until the reopening, options for lunch and gas are abundant. There’s a BP off of Kepler Road, and a bunch of fast food restaurants including Taco Bell, McDonald’s and Wendy’s to tide you over until late October, when Racetrac opens and goes back to being our convenient store of choice.
