Recap: the Lady Bulldog's seasonBy Madison Sennholtz
Sports Editor March 2, 2016 The Lady Bulldogs softball season has just begun and for many incoming freshmen a new chapter in their softball career is just beginning, too.
From the moment they stepped on the field for their first time, everything they’ve done was to make it to this point, and now they’re finally here. Freshman Mary Escott revealed her feelings about making the JV team, “I was very excited, I’ve always thought about being on a high school team and having a softball family and that cool feeling of being on a high school team.” “I felt like I could accomplish anything,” freshman Alexandria Ward said after learning she made it onto the JV squad. “It was amazing,” she continued. Although it seemed the hard part was over, being on the team would render new sets of obstacles. For instance, balancing your softball schedule with your schoolwork. “It’s not that hard, but it can be overwhelming at times,” Ward replied when asked about how she maintains good grades throughout the season. “There is a little more pressure with playing for the school because if you don’t keep up with your grades you could be kicked off of the team,” Escott explained. Softball is still softball no matter where you play but there is a difference between playing for your school and playing outside of school; there are some transitions players have to make. However, with the help of the more experienced Varsity team, this transition has been made much easier. “The Varsity girls helped me learn more about what I could do to get better, and I see them everywhere at school and they help me out with anything I need,” Escott stated. The Varsity Lady Bulldogs face off against Lake Mary on Tuesday, March 1, at 4:30 and JV will play at Lyman on Friday, March 4, at 4:00. |
