In 2014, Justin Bieber was labeled as the singer who landed behind bars. People had thought that the popstar had finally hit rock bottom when his bad boy behavior hit the headlines.
Egging houses, smoking weed, driving under the influence and having a bit of a temper are certain things that brought down his reputation drastically. But, I’m pleased to say, that Justin Bieber is back and better than ever.
In the past year, Justin has been on his “Apologetic tour” in which he has recognized his wrong doings and has own up to them. He has emphasized in many interviews that he doesn’t want to be defined by his mistakes, he wants people to know the real him. His Purpose album, does just that.
He starts off his album with “Mark My Words”, which is a slow symphonizing song in which Bieber seems to be promising his significant other that he will mend the relationship they once had. Of course, this song is dedicated to no other than Selena Gomez. Justin revealed on Ellen that “Sorry” and “What Do You Mean” is also about his first love.

“I’ll show you”, which has a similar beat to “Sorry”, gives us an insight on what he has to deal with as a pop sensation. “My life is a movie, and everyone’s watching” are the lyrics that start this track. The track, “Purpose”, is a godly tune in which he expresses his gratitude to God. Another song that’s one of my favorites is “Life is worth living”, which is basically a song to listen to when you’re at your lowest. . In his comeback album, he collaborates with Halsey, Big Sean, Travis Scott, Ariana Grande, Skrillex and Diplo, and Nas.
The Purpose Album, which was released Nov. 13th, still holds its place at #1 in iTunes. Besides the 64/100 that was received by MetaCritic on the album, the positive outweighs the negative. Billboard Magazine gave the album a 4 out of 5. Entertainment Weekly compliments the album’s vibe saying that it’s, “less of a mainstream crowd pleaser”.
The New York Times dropped an opinion on the album when comparing it to One Direction new album—which released on the same day—saying that Bieber proves to be “the best singer of the bunch”.
On a personal note, the Purpose Album is the perfect mixture of R&B and pop along with a dice of candidness. It was totally worth the wait.
