For over twenty years, DeLand has hosted the Fall Festival of the Arts, the weekend before Thanksgiving. Held on Woodland Boulevard, the tents filled with art, décor, and musical instruments follow the road from one end of DeLand to the other. Famous in Florida, for displaying over one hundred eighty, unique artist’s work, the Fall Festival of the Arts is an exciting and family friendly event open to everyone.
The main difference between this year’s festival and any other year, is the fact that the festival committee chose to “honor all West Volusia art teachers by having those who chose to participate, submit three works of art for judging,” Thomas Gilbert, a DHS art teacher explained. “Then, they selected one work from each teacher to be featured on this year’s event poster. Some of those selected for the show will also be included on the festival t-shirt.”
Two of DeLand High’s own art teachers, chose to participate in the upcoming event. They were, Mr. Gilbert and Mr. Carson, who both plan on attending the festival. Located in a central tent, their artwork and photography will be displayed and up for sale, November 23-24.
