How will the Steelers survive without Polamalu and Harrison?By Madi Smith
Press Crew April 14, 2015 The Pittsburgh Steelers are a successful franchise but could they possibly be the same without Troy Polamalu and James Harrison.
Veteran Harrison no longer has to wait for a answer if he would return to the Steelers or go play for Dick Lebeau, former defensive coach for Pittsburgh, who currently coaches the Titans in Tennessee. According to NFL.com , Harrison will return in a black and gold jersey next season, with a two year contract. Now that Harrison is officially in a Steeler jersey next season, what happens to Polamalu? The famous number 43 with long locks will not return as a Steeler next season, but that doesn’t mean he can’t go to another team and play in a different jersey. Polamalu has not said anything since he was told to make a decision. According to NFL.com, they have interviewed former Steelers’ wide receiver, Hines Ward, who was in the same situation in 2012. Ward made the statement, “For Troy, he’s 33, 34 [on April 19], he’s dealt with injuries and stuff, but who am I to tell a man to retire?” Ward said. “I just spoke with Troy last week. He was training and preparing to play football. I don’t know about the retirement aspect. It’s an unfortunate situation, but as you get older, you have to look at the business aspect of it.” Ward continued, “With Troy’s past and his ability, he still can provide something for somebody out there. I would love to see it be with the Steelers. I’d be crushed to see ‘43’ in something other than black and gold. But if he decides to keep playing and they decide to go somewhere else, he’s always going to be a Steeler for life, in my opinion.” Ward included. The 2015 NFL Draft happens on April 30th, so Polamalu needs to make a decision soon. With a very quit off season for the Steelers and the draft around the corner, Polamalu is still weighing his options while Harrison is ready to go for nest season. |
