Christmas Toys Throughout The Years
By Aztilen Maldonado
Staff Reporter December 19, 2017 During Christmas we all got toys as kids. The surprising thing is what toy was in high demand each year.
There have been many different types of gifts. For example, in recent years electronics have been really popular. This seemed to begin around 2007. In 2007 the gift in highest demand seemed to be the iPod Touch by Apple. In 2009 Nook eReaders took their turn. Apple was then again popular in 2010 for their iPad. Elmo toys have been popular dating back to the 1990s. In 1996 the Tickle Me Elmo was popular. They reappeared as high demand after 2008 with the Elmo live toy. Let’s Rock Elmo and Big Hugs Elmo are also worth mentioning. Gaming systems have never seemed nonexistent to us. Although we know that the technology we have today did not always exist. With that being said there are only a few gaming consoles that are popular: the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U. The obsession with characters from favorite kids shows and movies is not left behind. With Power Rangers and the Sphero BB-8 toy from Star Wars. For the little girls there was the Care Bears stuffed teddy bears and Elsa dolls. Barney dolls and the Smurfs were also cute little toys. Children seemed to like Pokémon cards and toys. Barbie or Bratz, what's the difference. We all had a favorite type of doll as a little girl. Barbie dolls had smaller heads and all looked similar. Bratz dolls had bigger heads and were more diverse. It’s exciting what types of toys this Christmas will bring with such a drastic change from dolls to gaming systems and phones. One can only imagine what other changes are to come. |
